Without external support, promises to change—made to self or others—almost inevitably fall by the wayside.
If we could change our problematic sexual behaviors on our own, we would, but we can’t, so we don’t. Generally, to begin the process of long-term healing we must enter a sex addiction focused treatment program, a 12-step sexual addiction recovery group, or both. This need for outside assistance is not unique to sex addiction. Addicts of all types recover in the same basic way: by asking for help from knowledgeable people who will guide them without judging them.
