When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.
Personal transformation, such as we see with sex and porn addiction recovery, begins with self-awareness. This does not, however, mean paralysis through analysis, where we spend so much time looking inward that we get stuck there and never make any changes. Instead, it means, when we are feeling down, asking ourselves, “What are my feelings right now? What are my thoughts right now? Why am I having these feelings and thoughts? And what am I doing with these feelings and thoughts?” When we pause in our difficult moments to assess what’s going on, we become self-aware, we start to see patterns in our thinking, and we recognize how those thought patterns lead to behavior patterns that make us unhappy (like our addiction).
