Saying “So What?”

The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.

Life happens. No matter how well we plan and prepare, we constantly encounter challenges and obstacles. Sometimes it seems like one damn thing after another after another, until we feel like we’ve reached a dead end with no way to move forward. When that happens, it’s time to ask ourselves a very simple question: “So what?” We don’t do this to be dismissive of the situation. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. What we’re really asking is, “In the face of this challenge, what am I going to do next? How am I going to deal with this? What can I do to make the situation better?” Rather than wallowing in self-pity, we figure out what went wrong, learn from it, decide what’s next, and move on. One tactic keeps us stuck in the mud, the other helps us push through the difficulty and hit the ground running, looking for the next opportunity.

Just for Today
I will accept life exactly as it, learning from it and moving forward without resentments or moping.
