Discipline consists, not in external compulsion, but in habits of the mind.
For active sex addicts, sexually addictive activity takes place no matter what, regardless of outward success, intelligence, physical attractiveness, existing intimate relationships, or anything else. Very often, feeling shameful or fearful, we tell ourselves, “This is the last time that I am going to behave in this way,” yet we feel compelled to return to the same or a similar sexual situation. And we do this regardless of past, current, and continued consequences—ruined relationships, trouble at work or in school, depression, anxiety, loss of self-esteem, emotional (and sometimes physical) isolation, financial issues, arrests, and more.
Just for Today:
Think of three times you acted out sexually after telling yourself you wouldn’t.
