We must develop and maintain our capacity to forgive—especially our ability to forgive ourselves.

The first part of step eight is compiling a list of the people we have harmed, not forgetting to include ourselves on the list. Reviewing our step four inventory is a great place to start when compiling this list. Most of the names on that list will also appear on our step eight list, but some may not, and new ones will likely be added. Our lists should include more than just the injured person’s (or institution’s) name. We should also write the specifics of the harm done, along with how the aggrieved party reacted to the situation (anger, fear, distrust, depression, etc.)

Just for Today
Think about why you belong on your step eight amends list.
