Successful Addiction Treatment Requires Choosing the Right Treatment Model.

Behavioral Problems Require Behavioral Forms of Treatment. Within this brief statement lies the bedrock of nearly all successful addiction care. While other populations may best respond to Jungian, Somatic, Narrative, Psychodynamic, EMDR, analytic, or other acknowledged forms of psychotherapy, addiction work requires us to give preference to the foundational use of cognitive-behavioral therapy. This brief talk utilizing the Sexual Dependency Inventory (SDI-R) as an introduction will provide insight into the ways that CBT is the fastest path to healing addiction behaviors. We will also cover best practices toward its utilization.

Objectives:

  1. Apply results of SDI-R to client treatment plan.
  2. Explain client addiction based and provide behavioral changes to address the behavioral addiction.
  3. Apply best practices to client treatment planning.

Successful Group Therapy with Sexual Addicts

It is an unquestionable fact that our clients are best served when provided clinical care in both individual and group therapy settings. As comfortable as many of us feel when providing individual work with addicts, we are often less confident when creating and maintaining a successful addiction group. What are the guidelines and rules? What is the most successful process toward group healing? How do we handle participants who lie? Should our groups be open or closed? How do we use the SDI and impact letters to achieve maximum impact? This talk provides a concrete overview of the addiction group process, along with useful documents and content that attendees are welcome to bring into their practices.

Objectives:

  1. Attendees will have practical guidelines for “group rules” for therapy
  2. Attendees will have tools to use to hold boundaries for group participants for group safety.
  3. Attendees will have documents to use in their practices.
