Saying “So What?”

The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance.

Life happens. No matter how well we plan and prepare, we constantly encounter challenges and obstacles. Sometimes it seems like one darn thing after another after another until we feel like we’ve reached a dead end with no way to move forward. When that happens, it’s time to ask ourselves a very simple question: “So what?” We don’t do this to be dismissive of the situation. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. What we’re really asking is, “In the face of this challenge, what am I going to do next? How am I going to deal with this? What can I do to make the situation better?” Rather than wallowing in self-pity, we can figure out what went wrong, learn from it, decide what’s next, and move on.
