Thoroughly working Step 2—coming to believe that a power greater than ourselves will restore us to sanity—is vital to our recovery, because it prepares us for the longer-term solution to come. It introduces us to the idea that we must accept outside assistance and guidance if we want to establish and maintain sobriety. We’ve tried it on our own and we couldn’t stay sober, so now we’re going to have to rely on something greater than ourselves.
Just for Today: I will accept that I can’t recover on my own.
