Attachment wounds play a significant role in addiction. Addictive behaviors are generally a maladaptive attempt to soothe the pain of loss, rejection, neglect, abandonment, betrayal, abuse, and other forms of emotional discomfort. When addictive behaviors enter into relationships, it can create new attachment wounds for both the addict and the partner. This monthly series explores both the wounding itself and how to use the principles of attachment to stop counterproductive behaviors.
