An old adage from Alcoholics Anonymous observes that “One drink is too many, and a thousand is never enough.” Neuroscientist Judith Grisel has studied that characterization of addiction both in her role as a psychology professor and as someone who has struggled with alcohol, marijuana and cocaine. She recently published her thoughts and insights in a new book, Never Enough: The Neuroscience and Experience of Addiction. National Public Radio host Terry Gross recently interviewed Dr. Grisel on her show “Fresh Air” and shares the insights Grisel has garnered as both a scientist and someone who has experienced the feeling of “never enough” first hand.
