Sex addicts don’t have to be married or monogamous to be sexually sober.
Long-term monogamy may be the goal for some (maybe even most) recovering sex addicts, but it is not by any stretch a necessity. In today’s world, healing from sexual addiction can encompass almost any sort of sexual or romantic connection – as long as it’s not secretive, abusive to self or others, used to avoid feelings, or causing problems to the addict and/or the addict’s loved ones. Sexual recovery is less about cultural norms like monogamy, and more about the elimination of problematic sexual activity and the development of sexual integrity.
