Shame is like quicksand. It sucks us in and tries to kill us.

Nearly all sex addicts are shame-based to one degree or another. As such, we tend to enter recovery feeling as if we are not good enough to recover, and that we don’t deserve to heal. And we continually point to our many negative life experiences as proof of these “facts.” Unsurprisingly, this negative self-image is generally what created our addiction – serving as the underlying driver of our desire to escape and numb out through sexual fantasy and activity – in the first place.
